BAMTC 2025: Roy King-Wan Arif Bank On Herry’s Guidance

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 7 (Bernama) -- Malaysia's fast-rising pair Wan Arif Wan Junaidi-Yap Roy King believe that the guidance of men’s doubles head coach Herry Iman Pierngadi will help them do well at the 2025 Badminton Asia Mixed Team Championship (BAMTC) in Qingdao, China, from Feb 11-16.

According to Wan Arif, despite having trained with Herry for only a week, he and his partner are confident in the ‘Fire Dragon’ coach’s ability to help them unlock the ‘secrets’ of their Indonesian opponents in the tournament.

“He has coached Indonesia before and that helps us a lot because Indonesia is in the same group as Malaysia.

“So we all hope to use that knowledge when competing in China,” he said when met after the national squad’s training session at the Academy Badminton Malaysia here today.

Roy King said he and his partner are ready to step up whenever needed in any tie during the tournament.

He said they will give their full commitment on court to contribute points for the national team.

“I believe every pair must take responsibility. If it comes down to men’s doubles, we are ready, whether on or off the court,” he said.

Malaysia will open their BAMTC 2025 campaign against Hong Kong on Wednesday before facing favourites Indonesia on Thursday.

Only the top two teams from each group will advance to the quarter-finals.

Malaysia has yet to win a medal since the tournament was introduced in 2017.
