MELAKA, March 6 (Bernama) -- “My only hope is to see my child recover and return to school…that would be enough for me,” said Azroyhatta Md Jais, 35, father to Nur Sumayyah, 7, who is battling neuroblastoma.

Neuroblastoma is a cancer that begins in immature nerve cells, mostly affecting children.

Azroyhatta said his only child was also eager to attend school like her friends but was forced to take a year off to undergo medical procedures.

The technician said he is determined to do his best to ensure his daughter can undergo chemotherapy and radiotherapy, among other treatments.

However, he said that the cost of the special medication that his daughter needs, Qarziba, totalling RM344,844 for 15 bottles, is a major concern for him and his wife, Shakila Silah, 36, as he is the sole breadwinner.

“Alhamdulillah, so far, I have received donations from various parties amounting to approximately RM186,000. I sincerely hope that the public will continue to donate so that Nur Sumayyah can afford the medication she needs.

“…the medication is not subsidised and she needs it by May….the latest would be by November. All medical procedures are being carried out at Tunku Azizah Hospital, Kuala Lumpur,” he said after receiving a cheque from Kesidang state assemblyman Allex Seah Shoo Chin at their home in Residensi Prima Pokok Mangga here today.

Azroyhatta said the 15 bottles of Qarziba are meant to be used over five months and function to prevent the cancer cells from returning, adding that Nur Sumayyah underwent surgery to remove cancer cells on Feb 19.

According to him, the nerve cancer was detected on Oct 28 last year after his daughter experienced recurring night fever for a week and stomach pain.

He said those who wish to help can channel their donations to his Bank Muamalat account at 04010042494728 (Azroyhatta bin Md Jais) or contact him at 017-6461436.

Meanwhile, Seah, who is also Melaka DAP secretary, said they managed to raise RM23,285.33 among business owners and close acquaintances to help Nur Sumayyah purchase the necessary medication.
