MAIWP Allocates RM1.1 Mln For 5,500 FT Asnaf Through Nur Ramadan Programme

PUTRAJAYA, March 11 (Bernama) -- The Federal Territories Islamic Religious Council (MAIWP) has allocated RM1.1 million to be distributed to 5,500 asnaf (eligible tithe recipients) through the Nur Ramadan programme.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa said the initiative is a noble act of worship and a manifestation of social justice.

“We can close the poverty gap, simultaneously reconciling social disparities between the rich and the poor.

“We have a responsibility to provide those who are still struggling with poverty, especially urban poverty with opportunities and the means to rise above the challenges,” she said at the Federal Territories Nur Ramadan programme here today.

Dr Zaliha also distributed RM200 cash aid to 300 selected recipients in Putrajaya and presented a special contribution of RM5,000 on behalf of the Federal Territories Department to Surau Abdul Rahman Auf, Presint 11, here to support its facility upgrades.

Also present were Federal Territories director-general Datuk Seri Noridah Abdul Halim and Putrajaya Corporation president Datuk Fadlun Mak Ujud.
