Melaka Spends RM5.8 Million For Upgrading Of Hang Tuah Complex

MELAKA, July 10 (Bernama) -- The Melaka government is allocating RM5.8 million for the upgrading of the Hang Tuah Centre Complex and also the Hang Tuah Museum in Duyong here, being carried out for three years since 2023.

Duyong Assemblyman  Datuk Mohd Noor Helmy Abdul Halem, who is also the State Science, Technology, Innovation and Digital Communications Committee deputy chairman, said the amount included RM2.5 million that was spent to improve exhibition materials involving the use of artificial intelligence (AI) at the museum.

"The expenditure involved works to upgrade the complex, including the facilities and exhibition materials, to attract more tourists.  Today, we can see that the Hang Tuah Centre Complex has become a tourist destination," he told reporters after appearing as a guest on Melaka FM today.

He said the state government is also working with the Melaka International College of Science and Technology (MiCoST) to develop an online video game, Roblox, based on the Hang Tuah Village concept as one of the promotions to introduce the tourism product, especially to the young generation

He said that several reforms in terms of the content of the programme and activities would also be implemented to give new life to the tourism products to attract more tourists to the state.

Mohd Noor Helmy said that among the programmes with potential to attract more tourists to the state is the silat training and demonstrations involving several local silat associations every week.

"We will also have a demonstration on making the ‘cakar ayam’, as well as organise’sukan rakyat’ every Sunday," he said.

In another development, he said that a total of 166 activities have been planned for the “Duyong Wakil Rakyat Untuk Rakyat” programme to be held for two weeks beginning July 13.

For those getting married, we have a marriage course for free, which is open to those getting married for the first time and limited to 100 people only, on July 19 and 20, he said, adding that there will also be an early screening programme for special or disabled children.
