Police Bust Drug Ring With RM5.9 Mln Of Cannabis Buds Bound For Europe

SHAH ALAM, Oct 13 (Bernama) -- Police believe they have busted a drug trafficking syndicate after seizing 173.14 kilogrammes (kg) of cannabis flowers and leaves, worth RM5.9 million, in four separate raids on Oct 3 and 5.

Bukit Aman Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department director Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said police also arrested five men and two women, aged between 25 and 41, and seized two vehicles with a total value of RM129,000.

He said two men and a woman were arrested in the first raid on a house around Subang Jaya before an inspection uncovered 115 plastic packages containing suspected cannabis flowers weighing 112.23 kg and 43 plastic packs of cannabis lumps weighing 4.72 kg.

“The second raid at a roadside around Petaling Jaya led to the arrest of two men who were in a Perodua Alza car with 12 plastic packages of cannabis flowers weighing 12.52 kg.

“The remaining two suspects, a man and a woman, were arrested in a third raid at a Selayang hotel before a search of the room revealed two plastic packages of cannabis flowers weighing 2.1 kg,” he said at a press conference here today.

Hussein said the arrest in Selayang led to the seizure of 40 more plastic packages with cannabis flowers weighing 41.56 kg, which were stored in a Toyota Vios in a condominium carpark in Petaling Jaya.

He said initial investigations found that the syndicate, which was detected to be active since early September, was using the Klang Valley as a base to distribute to overseas markets, especially European countries using the euro currency.

“In initial urine screening, all the suspects arrested tested negative for any type of drug, but four of them each had 18, eight, six and three previous criminal records respectively related to drugs and crime," he also said.

Hussein added that all the suspects, who were locals, were remanded between Oct 4 and 19, and the case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
