PUTRAJAYA, Oct 13 (Bernama) -- The Higher Education Ministry (MoHE) has agreed to allow online or hybrid Teaching and Learning (PdP) sessions for Hindu students and teaching staff across all public higher education institutions (IPTAs) from Oct 16 to 24 in conjunction with the Deepavali celebrations.

In a statement today, the ministry said the move enables members of higher learning institutions to celebrate the Festival of Lights with their families in a harmonious and meaningful way.

“This leeway applies to public universities, polytechnics and community colleges in conjunction with the celebration of the Festival of Lights,” MoHE said.

It said the decision was made following discussions with relevant departments and agencies, and its implementation will depend on the suitability and academic requirements of each institution to ensure teaching activities are not disrupted.

MoHE emphasised that the initiative is part of efforts to embrace religious and cultural diversity within higher education institutions, in line with the spirit of inclusivity and harmony in Malaysia’s multiracial society.

The ministry also extended its Deepavali greetings to all Hindu students, academicians and staff of MoHE, as well as to the Hindu community across Malaysia, wishing that the festival brings joy, peace and prosperity to all.

Deepavali will be celebrated on Oct 20.
