KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 13 (Bernama) -- Maxim Malaysia today launched the “Drive For Inclusion” programme, aimed at empowering individuals with special needs, including Persons with Disabilities (OKU), to become e-hailing drivers and opening up meaningful employment opportunities for them in the country’s digital economy.

Maxim Malaysia director-general Mohd Hazwan Musley, in a statement, said that the programme provided a platform for capable people with disabilities to join the workforce by enjoying flexibility, freedom and dignity.

“At Maxim, we believe mobility is a fundamental right not only for passengers, but also for those who provide the service. Talent is universal, but opportunities are unequal. So 'Drive For Inclusion' is our commitment to changing that.

“We are not just offering a transportation service, we are driving change, breaking down barriers and proving that ability always overcomes disadvantage. We are very proud to welcome these new drivers to the Maxim family,” he said.

Mohd Hazwan said Maxim, a leading e-hailing service provider, was introducing a subsidised commission rate of between zero and five per cent, depending on the driver’s activity level in number of daily trips.

To support programme participants, Maxim has also set up a dedicated, daily helpline to assist with registration, navigation and resolving technical issues within 24 hours, in addition to a peer support network being established to enable drivers to share experiences and best practices.

Meanwhile, one of the earliest drivers to join the programme, Abd Hashim, said it had already begun to have a positive impact on the OKU community.

“Before joining Maxim, it was very difficult for me to find a job. Many workplaces did not understand my condition, and I struggled to make ends meet. Now, as a full-time driver with Maxim, I have flexibility, freedom, and a way to support myself.

“This programme has brought joy and hope back into my life. It proves that people like me are still capable and with the right opportunities, we can succeed,” said Abd Hashim, who once suffered a partial stroke.

To participate in this programme, the registration process is the same as for regular drivers, with the addition of OKU status verification, which can be done at any Maxim office or through photo verification in the app.

Among the documents required are to provide a copy of MyKad, a Competent Driving Licence (CDL) valid for more than a year, a PSV Licence, a passport-sized colour photo, a health check-up report, forms JPJL8A and JPJL12, a JPJL2C certificate and an OKU card.

Maxim has also developed an income calculator on its official website to help partners (drivers) estimate their income targets and plan their journeys more wisely and effectively.
