ALOR SETAR, Oct 14 (Bernama) -- A total of 1,500 athletes from 56 countries have confirmed their participation in the 10th edition of Ironman Malaysia in Langkawi from Oct 30 to Nov 2.

Ironman Asia Regional director CG Lim said the race will feature a 3.8-kilometre (km) swim, a 180-km bike ride and a 42.2-km marathon run.

“Malaysia once again boasts strong home representation, with 500 athletes competing across both the full Ironman Malaysia and Ironman 70.3 Langkawi.

"In total, the race will unite 1,500 athletes, 5,000 spectators and 1,250 volunteers," he said in a statement today.

Lim said many local triathletes trace their beginnings to Langkawi, where they first experienced the challenge of Ironman before progressing to international competitions.

“Set against the backdrop of a tropical paradise, the race takes athletes on a cultural journey through Langkawi’s diverse landscapes.

“Over the past decade, Ironman Malaysia has consistently delivered a strong economic boost to Langkawi. Since 2014, the event has generated an estimated RM248 million in total economic impact, peaking at nearly RM38 million in 2019 before rebounding post-pandemic with RM23.8 million recorded last year,” he said.

He said this year's edition is expected to build on that momentum, underscoring Langkawi’s growing reputation as one of the region’s premier endurance sport destinations.

“This 10th edition is more than just a race. It marks a decade of community building, global exposure and shared endurance. It is also a dream-chasing platform for Malaysians, many of whom have earned their coveted slots to the Ironman World Championship in Kona, Hawaii," he said.
