SEREMBAN, Oct 14 (Bernama) -- The Negeri Sembilan Women’s Organisation (NSWO) continues to show a high level of commitment in advocating for women's welfare and assisting those in need through various welfare initiatives.
Its president, Datin Seri Raja Salbiah Tengku Nujumudin said through the NSWO Strategic Plan 2015, all programmes organised are focused on empowering women, including assistance to single mothers, orphans, flood victims, disaster victims and low-income families.
She said via the Welfare and Social Bureau, various aid initiatives are implemented for those in need, especially in the development and empowerment of women as the backbone of family and community well-being.
"This organisation, which brings together 25 women’s affiliated bodies, is not only an umbrella to various welfare and development programmes but also a key driver in strengthening social support networks in Negeri Sembilan
"NSWO is always working to ensure that women, especially single mothers and low-income women, continue to be given opportunities to improve their standard of living through skills assistance and ongoing support," she said during her speech at the Deepavali contribution presentation ceremony, organised by NSWO and the Welfare Association of Wives of Ministers and Deputy Ministers (BAKTI) here today.
In the programme, a total of 39 individuals from the B40 group received donations of daily necessities and RM200 in cash, and were represented by the chairpersons of their respective non-governmental organisations (NGOs).
Meanwhile, the Jempol Tailors and Handicrafts Association chairman G. Puranam, 51, who today received two portable sewing machines from NSWO, said the donation is hoped to encourage greater participation of women in the field of sewing.
“We now have 11 sewing machines, and with the additional two units, it will benefit approximately 30 students under this association," she said.
She also said support from various parties is very important in empowering women because when a woman has skills, these can not only help increase their income but also help strengthen the family economy.
