JPJ To Step Up Road Patrols During Deepavali Holidays

15/10/2025 11:02 AM

KUALA LANGAT, Oct 15 (Bernama) -- The Road Transport Department (JPJ) will intensify road patrols and monitoring nationwide throughout the Deepavali festive season, which begins next Monday.

JPJ director-general Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli said the move comes as the number of vehicles on the road is expected to increase during the holiday period, coinciding with the school break from Oct 18 to 22.

“Although there are no specific plans to conduct festive season operations or roadblocks, JPJ will carry out continuous monitoring and patrols to ensure smooth traffic flow during this period.

“JPJ will also work closely with highway concessionaires to assist in managing traffic, especially along routes used by those travelling back to their hometowns for the holidays,” he told reporters at a press conference held in conjunction with JPJ Selangor’s Special Operation at the Banting Enforcement Station last night.

Aedy Fadly added that, for now, the department has no plans to impose restrictions on heavy vehicles using roads, including highways, during the same period.

The Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM) had projected that 2.67 million vehicles would be on major highways during the Deepavali peak travel period on Oct 20.

Of this, about 2.2 million vehicles are expected to use highways operated by PLUS Malaysia Berhad, followed by the Kuala Lumpur-Karak Expressway (170,000), East Coast Expressway Phase 1 (90,000), East Coast Expressway Phase 2 (40,000), and the West Coast Expressway (170,000).
