GEORGE TOWN, Oct 15 (Bernama) -- The HARRIS Hotel & Conventions Sunshine, managed by The Ascott Limited Malaysia, is set to open in January 2026, marking the debut of the HARRIS brand in Penang.
Ascott said in a statement today that the hotel is designed for both business and leisure travellers, offering modern guest rooms, state-of-the-art meeting spaces and signature HARRIS hospitality.
In anticipation of its upcoming soft opening in January, the hotel has launched the Harris Photo Hunt 2025, a nationwide photography contest themed “Heritage and Nature”.
Ascott Malaysia country general manager Mondi Mecja said the company hopes to encourage Malaysians to appreciate the beauty of their surroundings in a new light -- literally -- through the play of shadows featured in this year’s HARRIS Photo Hunt.
“As we prepare to open our doors in early 2026, this initiative also reflects our commitment to engaging with the community and celebrating Penang’s unique character,” he said.
Running from Oct 13 to Dec 13, the contest is free and open to all Malaysians, with total prizes worth up to RM7,000 to be won.
The nationwide photo contest challenges photography enthusiasts to capture striking “shadow photography” moments that celebrate Malaysia’s rich cultural heritage and natural beauty.
Participants can submit their best photographs online via the official contest page at https://www.discoverasr.com/en/harris/malaysia/harris-hotel-conventions-sunshinepenang/Harris_Hotel_Conventions_Sunshine_Penang.
Winners will be announced in December 2025, ahead of the hotel’s soft opening.
