KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 16 (Bernama) -- The government will decide on issues of discipline and safety involving school students tomorrow, following reports of several inappropriate incidents lately.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said he held a brief discussion with Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek regarding the matter today.

"We will discuss (the matter) in the Cabinet in detail. Earlier, I held a short discussion with the minister, tomorrow we will make a decision,” he told reporters briefly when asked to comment on educational reforms following several reports of rapes, murders and bullying in schools.

Anwar told reporters this after officiating the joint opening ceremony of the 43rd ASEAN Ministers on Energy Meeting (AMEM-43) and its associated meetings, and the 25th ASEAN Energy Business Forum (AEBF-25) at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC) here today.

Yesterday, the Prime Minister said that stern action to address disciplinary and safety issues in schools, which require swift intervention, will be discussed by the Cabinet.

Lately, several serious incidents involving students have been reported, including a murder case at a school in Bandar Utama, Petaling Jaya, as well as rape cases involving several students in Melaka and Kedah.

Another matter that has caught the attention of the public is the rise in bullying cases in schools, with the Education Ministry's data showing that 7,681 cases were recorded last year compared to 6,528 in 2023.
