KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 21 (Bernama) -- The Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) is prepared to face any eventuality and challenge during the 47th ASEAN Summit which will be held from Oct 26 to 28.
Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail said proactive measures have been implemented including early intelligence, continuous monitoring and the deployment of special action teams at strategic locations to address any eventuality such as cybersecurity and demonstrations.
"A total of 10,170 PDRM officers and personnel have been mobilized to carry out security assignments throughout the prestigious event," he told Bernama when contacted here today regarding PDRM's preparedness in facing the conference attended by many world leaders.
Mohd Khalid said the assignment also involved the use of various land and air assets including surveillance drones, high-tech closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras and integrated tactical communication systems as well as data analytics approaches to improve operational efficiency in the field.
He said security controls were not only focused on the main conference location and the official hotel where the delegations will stay, but also covered all the country's main entry points including airports, ports and land borders.
"Strategic areas around the Klang Valley such as Putrajaya are also under close monitoring and all PDRM contingents have been instructed to increase their level of preparedness," he said.
Meanwhile, Kuala Lumpur Police Chief Datuk Fadil Marsus reminded the public not to cause any disruption during the conference, including organising gatherings around the capital that could disrupt the conference and public order.
"If there is a violation of this matter, it will be considered a crime," he said in a press conference here today.
Fadil also appealed to the public to cooperate with the authorities throughout the conference as it will be the focus of the world who want to see Malaysia's performance in chairing ASEAN.
The 47th ASEAN Summit themed "Inclusivity and Sustainability" is scheduled to be held in Kuala Lumpur from Oct 26 to 28 with the participation of the top leaders of the 10 ASEAN member states as well as key dialogue partners including the United States, China, Japan and India.
