Women’s, Veterans' Categories To Make Debut At Cobra 10s Rugby C'ships

PETALING JAYA, Oct 22 (Bernama) -- This year's Cobra 10s Rugby Championships, to be held at Padang Astaka from Nov 1-2, will see the introduction of the women's and men's veterans’ Under-40 categories.

Cobra Rugby Club president Darryll Sinnappa said the introduction of the two new categories reflects their commitment to inclusivity, diversity and lifelong participation in the sport.

“The reason we introduced them is because we observed a growing interest, especially among women. We believe diversity is very important in rugby.

“So, we decided to make the 52nd edition of the Cobra 10s a rugby festival that offers a holistic tournament, featuring veterans, women, men’s elite and juniors,” he told a press conference today.

Meanwhile, Darryll said 12 teams from seven countries - Malaysia, the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, Samoa, Papua New Guinea and South Africa - will compete in the men’s elite category.

He said that besides Cobra Rugby Club, the other teams representing Malaysia are KL Tigers, SSTMI Tsunami, MPSJ Knight, Royal Town Warriors and KRAS Rugby.
