KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 23 (Bernama) -- Malaysia and India intend to strengthen the Putrajaya-New Delhi bilateral relationship to a more strategic and comprehensive level, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

He said that he received a phone call from his counterpart Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi last night to discuss the efforts.

“India remains an important partner of Malaysia in the fields of trade and investment, in addition to close cooperation in the technology, education and regional security sectors,” he said in a post on the X social media platform today.

Anwar, who is also Finance Minister, said the discussion with Modi also included the 47th ASEAN Summit in Kuala Lumpur to take place at the end of this month.

He said Modi will be attending the summit virtually, given that the Deepavali festival is still being celebrated in India at that time.

“I respect the decision and extend my Deepavali greetings to him and all the people of India.

“Malaysia will remain committed to strengthening Malaysia-India relations and further enhancing ASEAN-India cooperation towards a more peaceful and prosperous region,” he said.
