French Open: Aaron-Wooi Yik Set Up All-Malaysian Clash Against Yew Sin-Ee Yi

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 23 (Bernama) -- Malaysia’s men’s doubles campaign at the French Open 2025 got off to a flying start as national pairs Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik and Ong Yew Sin-Teo Ee Yi marched into the round of 16 to setting up an all-Malaysian showdown for a place in the quarterfinals.

At the Glaz Arena in Cesson-Sevigne, the top national duo Aaron-Wooi Yik displayed composure to win against Indonesia’s Leo Rolly Carnando-Bagas Maulana 21-15, 26-24 while Yew Sin-Ee Yi produced a composed performance to overcome India’s Pruthvi Krishnamurthy Roy-Sai Pratheek K. 21-18, 21-13 in the round of 32. 

Based on past encounters, Aaron-Wooi Yik, currently ranked world number two, hold advantage with six wins in nine previous meetings against their compatriots. 

The clash will ensure that at least one Malaysian pair advances to the quarterfinals of the BWF World Tour Super 750 tournament.

Adding to the country’s strong showing, Goh Sze Fei–Nur Izzuddin Rumsani staged a spirited comeback to stun Japan’s Takuro Hoki-Yugo Kobayashi 15-21, 21-19, 21-11, earning a round of 16 meeting with Lee Jhe-Huei-Yang Po-Hsuan of Taiwan.

Malaysia’s fine run continued in the women’s doubles when Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah battled past Taiwan’s Hsu Yin-Hui–Lin Jhih Yun 21-16, 22-24, 21-12. 

They will next face China’s Bao Li Jing–Zhang Shu Xian. 

However, in the men’s singles event, Leong Jun Hao’s challenge came to an end after falling 16-21, 15-21 to Denmark’s Viktor Axelsen, the two-time Olympic gold medallist, who will next face Chou Tien Chen of Taiwan.
