PUTRAJAYA, Oct 24 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today received a memorandum from a coalition of 16 non-governmental organisations (NGOs) expressing their support for his leadership, including his efforts to amplify Malaysia’s voice during a meeting with United States President Donald Trump at the 47th ASEAN Summit, scheduled to take place from the 26th to 28th of this month.
Muslim Youth Movement of Malaysia (ABIM) president Ahmad Fahmi Mohd Samsudin presented the memorandum to Anwar after Friday prayers at Surau Al-Quddus in Presint 16, here, today.
The NGOs expressing their support include the Malaysian Consultative Council of Islamic Organisations (MAPIM), Pertubuhan Ikram Malaysia (IKRAM), Wadah Pencerdasan Umat Malaysia (WADAH), and the National Union of Malaysian Muslim Students (PKPIM).
Speaking to reporters, Ahmad Fahmi said the memorandum has five key points, including support for the Prime Minister’s leadership and his efforts to drive the nation’s economic recovery.
Other points include leveraging the US-ASEAN Summit to reinforce Malaysia’s role as a regional centre for peace, while also supporting the Prime Minister’s steadfast commitment to defending the rights of the Palestinian people and elevating Malaysia’s voice on global humanitarian causes.
“We must reinforce our role as a key global player by capitalising on our ASEAN chairmanship, and with President Trump’s presence, it is crucial that we assert our position clearly,” he said.
