24/10/2025 09:29 PM

TAIPING, Oct 24 (Bernama) -- The floods that hit the Larut, Matang and Selama (LMS) district here also affected the Kuala Trong Muslim Cemetery, near Bukit Gantang.

Bukit Gantang Member of Parliament Datuk Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal said there were several bodies and coffins that were displaced from the graves, in addition to the tombstones in the cemetery area that were removed from the ground.

However, he said villagers helped to remanage most of the bodies that were removed from the graves.

"The cemetery area will be repaired immediately. I will discuss further with the residents' committee and mosque in the area," he said when met by reporters after visiting flood victims at the Sekolah Kebangsaan Simpang temporary relief centre (PPS) here today.

Meanwhile, Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz said the flood victims, comprising the elderly with chronic illnesses and mothers with young babies from the Bukit Gantang parliamentary constituency, will be housed at the Taiping Perdana Hotel here.

He said the victims involved were accommodated at the hotel to provide comfort because the existing PPS conditions were not very suitable for them.

As of 4 pm today, a total of 2,496 residents from 857 families had been evacuated to 24 PPS in the LMS district, Kerian, Manjung and Perak Tengah.
