JOHOR BAHRU, Oct 24 (Bernama) -- Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) has recorded sales of more than RM100 million this year under the Gate to Global programme, which has helped local entrepreneurs penetrate the international market.

Its council member and chairman of MARA Women’s Empowerment Programme, Senator Datuk Rosni Sohar said the sales were achieved through markets in China, South Korea, Thailand and Indonesia.

“The overall sales involve about 50 entrepreneurs, including women who took part in the Gate to Global programme,” she told reporters after the Johor level MARA Women’s Empowerment Programme and Malaysia MADANI Nationhood Seminar here today.

Also present was Deputy Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Dr Noraini Ahmad.

Rosni said MARA remains committed to encouraging entrepreneurs to grow their businesses through various forms of assistance provided.

Earlier, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the Gate to Global programme provides entrepreneurs with the opportunity to market their products overseas under a single brand recognised by the agency.

Meanwhile, Rosni said MARA has allocated RM42.4 million for women entrepreneur programmes in Johor, with more than 1,700 individuals benefitting this year.

The allocation includes RM1.13 million for development programmes, RM35.36 million for financing facilities, and RM5.93 million for the provision of conducive business premises.

“I hope that participants of this programme will enhance their confidence and skills, particularly in entrepreneurship and community development,” she added.

Earlier, in her speech, Noraini welcomed MARA’s initiatives in boosting the productivity of entrepreneurs, especially women, in the country.

“MARA is committed to developing an inclusive women entrepreneurship ecosystem, covering both rural and urban areas.

“This ensures women across the country are given fair opportunities, particularly in entrepreneurship,” she also said.
