SHAH ALAM, Oct 24 (Bernama) -- Selangor is currently on its highest level of preparedness to face any disaster or emergency during the monsoon transition season, which is expected to last until February next year.
Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said disaster preparedness measures had been activated since July, involving more than 20 uniformed agencies, including the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM), Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), as well as local government authorities (PBT) under the State Disaster Unit.
“Overall, more than 5,000 personnel and officers, including health teams, have been mobilised to ensure comprehensive preparedness across all districts.
“I, along with the State Secretary and the relevant state executive council members, will personally monitor the implementation on the ground,” he told reporters after flagging off the Selangor Disaster Management Squad in conjunction with the launch of National Preparedness Month (BKN) 2025 here today.
Amirudin said the preparedness efforts not only involve security and enforcement agencies, but also the participation of various groups such as the State Sports Council and Team Selangor, which will be mobilised as volunteers.
He said monitoring of hotspot areas had also been enhanced with the upcoming high phenomenon.
“We hope that there will be no heavy rain, but if it does, the improved roads and drainage systems in the risk areas, as well as the preparedness of the security forces, will be able to carry out rescue operations and provide early assistance to victims,” he said.
Meanwhile, Amirudin said the state government is prepared to assist other states, such as Perak, which is currently hit by floods.
