Two Killed, Five Injured In Kota Tinggi crash

KOTA TINGGI, Oct 26 (Bernama) -- Two drivers were killed in a head-on collision between two cars at Kilometre 18 of Jalan Mawai-Kuala Sedili here this afternoon, which left five others injured.

Kota Tinggi police chief Supt Yusof Othman said the two deceased were a 71-year-old driver of a gold Proton Waja, while the driver of a white Perodua Alza was 29 years old. Both men died at the scene from severe head injuries.

He said his department received an emergency call regarding the deadly accident at about 1.15 pm, which was believed to have occurred when the Proton Waja car lost control and entered the opposite lane before colliding head-on with a Perodua Alza car.

"Both drivers suffered serious head injuries and died at the scene, while five local passengers were seriously injured and are being treated at Kota Tinggi Hospital," he said in a statement today.

He said the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Meanwhile, the fire department in a separate statement announced that a Fire Rescue Tender and an Emergency Rescue Service (EMRS) Unit with 11 firefighters were deployed to the site of the accident.

Operations commander Senior Fire Officer I Faizal Ahmad said the extraction team (PKO) proceeded to free the trapped victims with special equipment and helped health officers in administering first aid until the operation ended at 2.43 pm.
