KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 27 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Motorcycle Grand Prix (Malaysia GP) 2025, which concluded yesterday, recorded an increase in attendance, drawing more than 195,000 spectators over the race weekend.
Sepang International Circuit (SIC) chief executive officer Azhan Shafriman Hanif said the figure marks an increase compared to last year, despite this year’s event coinciding with the ASEAN Summit.
“Although we did not reach the target of 200,000 spectators, we are grateful for the encouraging turnout. Many still attended despite road closures in place for the ASEAN Summit.
“We observed that the grandstand seats were packed with spectators cheering for all the riders throughout the championship,” he said, adding that the higher attendance also contributed to a significant increase in ticket sales.
“Alhamdulillah, ticket sales have increased this year compared to last year. However, there is still room for improvement, particularly in terms of ticket sales strategy for next year.
“A ‘buy one, free one’ promotion was also introduced from the first day, and although the total revenue has yet to be finalised, current trends indicate a positive increase compared to the previous year,” he told Bernama.
On whether the ASEAN Summit had affected spectator turnout, Azhan Shafriman admitted that the organisers were initially concerned about road closures and traffic diversions, but actual attendance figures showed an increase, thanks to the cooperation of the authorities.
“Many spectators arrived earlier to avoid traffic congestion and diversions. Although congestion still occurred, it is something that happens every year and is difficult to avoid.
“For next year, we plan to improve traffic flow into the circuit. We hope that spectators who arrive early will be able to enjoy the race without the stress of congestion,” he said, adding that existing facilities at the SIC, including restroom amenities, will also be upgraded to enhance visitor comfort in the coming season.
