KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 10 (Bernama) -- The remand period for local rapper Wee Meng Chee, better known as Namewee, to assist investigations into the death of a Taiwanese female influencer, has been extended for three days until this Thursday.
Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Fadil Marsus said this followed the expiration of the initial remand order today.
“The application to extend Namewee’s remand was approved for three days from tomorrow until Nov 13,” he said in a statement today.
Earlier, the media reported that the musician, who was the last person seen with the Taiwanese influencer, Hsieh Yun Hsin, was considered important in assisting the investigation and had surrendered himself last Wednesday.
The 33-year-old woman was found dead in a bathtub in the bathroom of a hotel on Jalan Conlay here on Oct 22 before her body was sent to Hospital Kuala Lumpur for a post-mortem. Police are still awaiting the full autopsy and toxicology reports to determine the actual cause of death.
The case, which was initially classified as sudden death, has been reclassified as murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
In the same investigation, the musician was also detained for possession and use of drugs and was charged in the Kuala Lumpur Magistrate's Court on Oct 24.
