TANJONG MALIM, Nov 11 (Bernama) -- Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) continues to bring pride to the nation, earning multiple global recognitions and academic achievements that strengthen its international reputation.
UPSI vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Md Amin Md Taff said the university now ranks 126th globally, a significant improvement from its previous position at 151st in the QS World University Rankings by Subject, marking a strong upward trajectory.
He said that in the QS World University Rankings Asia 2026, UPSI climbed to 156th place in Asia, compared to 165th the previous year.
“In the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2026, UPSI remains strong among the top 601 universities worldwide, while in Malaysia, it ranks ninth among local higher education institutions.
“This success reflects UPSI’s steadfast vision and commitment to strengthening its international reputation and establishing Muallim as a global centre of educational excellence,” he said in his speech at UPSI’s 27th Convocation Ceremony at the Tuanku Canselor Hall, Sultan Azlan Shah Campus, here today.
Raja Permaisuri of Perak, Tuanku Zara Salim, who is also UPSI Chancellor, graced the ceremony.
Meanwhile, Md Amin said the university will continue to intensify efforts to elevate the names of UPSI and Muallim on the world stage through various strategic initiatives, international rankings, and high-impact programmes.
“Among the notable recognitions received by UPSI this year is the Bitara NCDRC-UPSI Kindergarten, which became the first preschool in Malaysia to be recognised by the UNESCO Associated Schools Network (ASPnet),” he said.
He said UPSI also achieved other successes, including individual and institutional achievements. Assoc. Prof. Dr Norliza Jamaluddin from the Faculty of Languages and Communication, for one, was named Best Malay Language Academia Award recipient, while student Ng Zhen Fan Shankar was honoured as the National Student Icon.
UPSI also earned a 4 Diamond rating in the 2030 Low Carbon City Challenge; the Best Traditional Dance Award at the 34th International Korean Dance Festival in Daejeon, South Korea; and a Gold Award for its GeoAttendance innovative project in Taiwan.
The 2025 convocation, held from Nov 11 to 18, witnessed 7,173 students graduating over eight sessions, including 4,467 Bachelor’s degree and 693 Diploma recipients.
