KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 13 (Bernama) -- National veteran archer Mohd Juwaidi Mazuki ended Malaysia’s 10-year medal drought in the compound event at the Asian Archery Championships by winning the men’s individual bronze medal at the 2025 edition in Dhaka, Bangladesh, today.
Mohd Juwaidi edged South Korea’s Kim Jongho with a narrow 148-147 victory in the bronze medal match held at the National Stadium.
The last time Malaysia won a medal in the compound event at the Asian Archery Championships was in the 2015 edition in Bangkok, Thailand, when the women’s team of Saritha Cham Nong, Nor Rizah Ishak and Fatin Nurfatehah Mat Salleh clinched bronze.
Meanwhile, 19-year-old South Korean archer Lee Eun Ho bagged the men’s compound gold medal after defeating compatriot Choi Yonghee 146-143.
Mohd Juwaidi’s triumph marks Malaysia’s second medal at the championships after the women’s recurve team trio — Ku Nurin Afiqah Ku Ruzaini, Ariana Nur Diana Zairi and Joey Tan — secured bronze by defeating Uzbekistan 6-0 last Tuesday.
The championships, which began on Nov 8, will conclude tomorrow.
