SHAH ALAM, Nov 14 (Bernama) -- The Selangor state government is now able to implement its long-term solution for Jalan Papan urban settlers following negotiations with developer Melati Ehsan Consolidated Sdn Bhd (MECSB), state Housing and Culture Committee chairman Datuk Borhan Aman Shah said.
He added that the state government has accepted MECSB’s agreement to hand over seven acres of land after it sent an official letter to the developer on Nov 11 regarding the commitment the developer made during a meeting with Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari on Oct 21.
“With the seven acres handed over, the state government is capable of drafting the development of an apartment building as a long-term solution for affected settlers.
“In addition to the land, MECSB through its lawyers have also stated its willingness to hand over several lots along Jalan Papan and Jalan Kerayong to relocate houses of worship.
“The state government is on a clearer track to ensure a solution that is just, planned and humane for Jalan Papan settlers, while maintaining development in line with the state housing and planning policies,” he said in a statement today.
Other commitments secured from MECSB include ensuring that the demolition against houses with residents is suspended till the handover of land is finalised.
Borhan said the handover is a vital step in allowing resettlement in a more organised and sustainable manner, adding that the state government was ready to offer temporary housing via the Smart Rental Scheme to settlers at an affordable rate.
“The state government’s commitment is clear, no settler will be left without temporary housing till a permanent solution is found and finalised,” he added.
