KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 17 (Bernama) -- The second instalment of the Digital Scaling-Up Seminar for SMEs: Tech Up, Scale Up! continued today in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah with the participation of more than 150 Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) from the manufacturing, services and tourism sectors.

The seminar, organised by SME Corp Malaysia, an agency under the Ministry of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives (KUSKOP), aims to empower SMEs in optimising the use of digital technology to enhance efficiency, productivity and business scaling, in line with the focus of the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP).

It is a continuation of the first instalment held on Nov 3 in Kuala Lumpur.

KUSKOP Secretary-General Datuk Seri Khairul Dzaimee Daud, when officiating the event, emphasised the government’s commitment to creating a progressive and resilient SME ecosystem, with a target of 50 per cent SME contribution to GDP by 2030.

“Scaling-up efforts will be strengthened through capacity-building programmes, digitalisation and business operation improvements with cooperation between the government and industry,” he said.

SME Corp Malaysia Chief Executive Officer Rizal Nainy recommended that entrepreneurs in Sabah register for SME Status and undergo the SME Competitiveness Rating for Enhancement (SCORE), to facilitate access to government assistance and to assess business capabilities comprehensively.

The seminar also received strategic cooperation from the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), the Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers (FMM) and the Small and Medium Enterprises Association of Malaysia (SAMENTA), in addition to showcasing technology solutions through the Tech Spot mini exhibition featuring 12 digital providers.

Also present were MDEC Director of SME Digitalisation Department Mohd Redzuan Affandi Abdul Rahim, SAMENTA Sabah Chairman Datuk George Lim Su Chung and FMM Sabah Chairman Liaw Hen Kong.
