KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 18 (Bernama) -- Malaysia’s drive towards a people-centred digital transformation must guarantee that every citizen, regardless of location or income, has equal access to digital opportunities as the nation accelerates its shift toward a smarter, more connected future.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof said the government envisions a Malaysia equipped with advanced digital infrastructure, a future-ready talent pool, sustainable urban systems, high-value job creation, and communities fully empowered to participate in the nation’s digital progress.

“Malaysia’s ambition is clear. We are not here to follow the digital revolution. We are here to lead it. At the heart of all our efforts lies a guiding conviction: technology must uplift people.

“(We envision) a Malaysia where every step forward is shared and where progress lifts every citizen,” he said in his opening address at the Smart Nation Expo 2025 here today.

Fadillah, who is also the Energy Transition and Water Transformation Minister, said his ministry continues to champion renewable energy, strengthen energy resilience, advance smart water management and lead the integration of green technologies.

He said Malaysia’s vision of progress places digitalisation and sustainability as mutually reinforcing pillars, ensuring the nation grows not only smarter, but greener, safer and more resilient.

“Our national aspirations are aligned with the Malaysia Smart City Framework, which envisions a future where digital access is inclusive, public services are seamless, mobility is efficient, and our energy and water systems operate intelligently,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Smart Nation Expo 2025, in a statement, said the event, themed Driving Digitalisation Towards a Smart Economy, features more than 300 participating companies and is expected to attract over 21,000 industry professionals from across the region during its run from today to Nov 20.

The expo is co-located with Electric Vehicle Manufacturing (EVM) Asia and Data Centre Asia Malaysia, showcasing advances in next-generation mobility and data infrastructure.

Three major summits are being held concurrently to connect innovators, decision-makers and investors, namely the Digital Economy Leaders’ Summit 2025, the Asia Smart Cities Summit 2025 and the EIC Forum, besides more than 50 Technology Talks covering various topics, including 5G adoption, artificial intelligence (AI) and smart city solutions.

“The annual event is positioned as Southeast Asia’s most comprehensive technology and innovation showcase, with organisers confident it will continue to serve as a catalyst for Malaysia’s digital growth and support the nation’s goal of becoming a regional leader in the digital economy,” the statement read.
