KOTA KINABALU, Nov 18 (Bernama) -- Many candidates of the 17th Sabah state election today appeared on various social media platforms to share daily campaign developments or display their community service achievements to attract the attention of voters.

In the Bongawan state seat, Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate Datuk Mohamad Alamin shared photos and a tweet on Facebook regarding the massive influx of supporters of the opposing party, Warisan, joining BN.

Mohamad, who is also the Deputy Foreign Minister, in his tweet expressed his appreciation to Warisan supporters who came forward to support him and BN without coercion or pressure from any party.

"This is not a blow to any party but is done out of the awareness of the people, out of their own free will. Everyone knows, BN in Sabah is the opposition but at the federal level we are the government.

"I am still serving as the Member of Parliament for Kimanis and will continue to work and strive to bring the development and progress that the people need. I believe that the people judge the performance and achievements of leaders not based on party,” he said.

Pakatan Harapan candidate for Kapayan, Datuk Jannie Lasimbang, via a WhatsApp post, listed the community services and follow-up actions on residents' complaints that she had carried out throughout her term as the Kapayan assemblyman.

PH in a statement via WhatsApp stated that Jannie's record of achievements, who is also the incumbent of the seat, reflects her leadership in serving the people, especially women, even outside the election campaign season.

The statement said that within a year, her service team had helped more than 8,000 families facing urgent difficulties, such as women at risk, single mothers and female caregivers being given priority by the Kapayan Service Office.

"Kapayan Service Office currently records 5,000 beneficiaries, while 10,751 residents receive general community assistance, with the majority coming from families headed by women.

"This data illustrates the enormous burden that women carry every day and reinforces Jannie's responsibility to ensure that the support system truly meets their needs," the statement said today.

Kapayan is seeing a 12-cornered fight while it is a nine-cornered fight in Bongawan in this election.

Polling day for the 17th Sabah state election involving 73 state seats is set for Nov 29 while early voting is on Nov 25.
