KOTA KINABALU, Nov 18 (Bernama) -- Incumbent Inanam assemblyman Datuk Peto Galim is confident that Pakatan Harapan (PH) can double its achievements if given a new mandate in the 17th Sabah State Election.
Peto, who is facing a 13-cornered contest, acknowledged that many development initiatives had yet to be implemented during his tenure, but is optimistic that these can be continued, thanks to the close cooperation between the state and federal governments under the leadership of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
“Some have indeed said we haven’t delivered enough, and we accept that due to time constraints. However, I am confident that if given a mandate for the next five years, we can deliver twice as much as we have achieved so far.
“Cooperation with the federal government is our key strength. It assures us that once we win, we can fulfil our promises to the people, especially voters of Inanam,” he told reporters after the Ziarah Tunai Janji programme at Kampung Dambai, Inanam today, with PKR deputy president Nurul Izzah Anwar also present.
Earlier, Peto, 59, visited five units of the Rumah Mesra Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ), which were completed in just over a month and a half to assist families who lost their homes in a fire earlier this year.
He said the government decided to build these homes without looking at the economic backgrounds of the affected families, and instead prioritised their urgent need for a comfortable place to live.
“These houses were built because we care. After the fire, we promised to build SMJ houses here as quickly as possible.
“Although there was a slight delay in the families moving in, these homes have brought immense joy to them. This is how we engage with the people, by delivering tangible results,” he added.
Peto also said that the Kionsom village area in Inanam has been officially gazetted as a Kadazan-Dusun, Murut and Rungus (KDMR) ethnic village to preserve the heritage of these indigenous communities.
He described the move as a huge milestone, especially for the KDMR communities, who have long awaited such recognition.
“In total, 22 villages in the N18 Inanam constituency have successfully been gazetted. We proposed, supported and approved this initiative through the Land Department, and it holds an immense significance for the residents, particularly the KDMR communities.
“This is a promise we’ve kept, and it demonstrates our commitment to the people of Inanam,” he said, adding that his approach is not to seek popularity through social media platforms or confrontational speeches but to be recognised for the tangible work he has delivered.
