KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 18 (Bernama) -- A female driver narrowly escaped death when scaffold poles from the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) construction project fell onto her car on Jalan Lingkaran Tengah 2 (MRR2) Batu Caves, near the Gombak Toll Plaza, here today.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) assistant director of operations Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar said the department received an emergency call at 1.47 pm.

“Seven personnel in two fire engines from the Selayang station were dispatched to the scene.

“Upon arrival, the rescue team found that scaffold poles from the ECRL construction project had fallen onto a Suzuki Swift car. The woman, in her 40s, had already been rescued by members of the public,” he said in a statement.

Meanwhile, Gombak district police chief ACP Noor Ariffin Mohamad Nasir, in a statement, said that the incident occurred at 2.30 pm while the 44-year-old victim was driving from Karak towards Gombak.

The cause of the incident is still under probe,” he said, adding that the case is being investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
