KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 18 (Bernama) -- Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) has recorded an impressive sales milestone, with 82,896 tickets snapped up within just 24 hours, after sales opened yesterday for travel between Jan 1 and April 30 next year.

KTMB chief technical officer (acting group chief executive officer) Ahmad Nizam Mohamed Amin said that the overwhelming demand in such a short time reflects the high level of public confidence in trains as a preferred mode of travel.

“The extraordinary response within just 24 hours proves that trains remain the preferred choice among the public.

“Although the number of unsuccessful transactions was very small, KTMB remains committed to improving its system to ensure a smoother and more reliable ticket-purchasing experience,” he said, as quoted in a KTMB statement.

KTMB said that a total of 79 transactions were reported as unsuccessful, and are currently being processed for refunds, which are expected to be completed within 14 days in accordance with the respective banks’ procedures.

At the same time, KTMB expressed its appreciation to the government, through the Ministry of Transport, for its commitment to gradually adding new train sets, which will help increase service frequency, capacity and passenger comfort.

Customers are advised to plan their journeys early for the upcoming holiday season and to check the latest train schedules via the KTMB Mobile application. For further information, they may visit www.ktmb.com.my or contact the KTMB Call Centre at 03-9779 1200.
