SBPAC Establishes Regional Support Centres To Face Flood Season In Southern Thailand

19/11/2025 03:44 PM

YALA, Nov 19 (Bernama) -- The Southern Border Provinces Administrative Centre (SBPAC) has established Regional Support Centres in five southern provinces of Thailand in preparation for possible flooding.

SBPAC Secretary-General Piyasiri Wattanavarangkul said the preparations are being carried out by SBPAC together with 78 local government units – including civil servants, police, military personnel and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) – to assist flood victims if needed.

He said the five provinces identified as being at risk of flooding are Narathiwat, Pattani, Yala, Songkhla and Satun.

“These preparations are in line with the Prime Minister’s directive that all parties must remain alert to the possibility of flash floods occurring at any time, especially in high-risk areas,” he told reporters here on Wednesday.

According to him, the newly established Regional Support Centres will be chaired by SBPAC, with the Commander of the 4th Army Region serving as adviser, while the respective provincial governors will act as deputy chairs.

Recently, the Thai Meteorological Department issued a warning of heavy rain expected to hit the southern provinces and strong winds in the Gulf of Thailand from Nov 17 to 23, 2025.

Last year’s floods reportedly claimed 12 lives and affected 1.78 million residents across the five southern provinces of Thailand.
