KUCHING, Nov 20 (Bernama) -- The improved mobile network coverage at the Lubok Antu Immigration, Customs, Quarantine and Security (ICQS) Complex is expected to ease tourism activities, enhance administrative efficiency and strengthen cross-border coordination with Indonesian authorities during emergencies involving citizens of both countries.

In a statement today, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) said the achievement reflects its commitment, alongside the Sarawak Government and industry players, to expanding high-quality and secure mobile access, and improving security and well-being in border communities.

“MCMC recently conducted a site survey for the operation of a new communications tower at the Lubok Antu ICQS Complex, which was developed in under three months from August and fully completed on Nov 5,” the statement read.

It said the infrastructure, built using a Multi-Operator Core Network (MOCN) model, is the result of a strategic collaboration involving MCMC, the Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation (SDEC) and five major mobile network operators, namely CelcomDigi, Maxis, U Mobile, Unifi Mobile and YES.

“This project reflects the strong commitment and effective coordination between Sarawak and Federal agencies as well as industry players, providing wider and more stable 4G coverage around the Lubok Antu ICQS Complex,” it added.
