KOTA BHARU, Nov 23 (Bernama) -- The flood situation in Kelantan remains under control despite a rise in the number of evacuees, said state Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) deputy director Aswafaizole Abdul Wahab.

According to the Social Welfare Department's (JKM) InfoBencana portal, a total of 5,394 evacuees are currently taking shelter at 26 relief centres as of 3.21 pm.

Aswafaizole said the department remains on high alert and will continue to intensify monitoring and rescue operations in high-risk areas.

“Since the state operations room opened at 8 pm last night, the fire brigade has rescued 78 victims within 12 hours following rising water levels in several districts,” he said.

He added that all victims were rescued after floodwaters entered their homes, with fire and rescue teams responding immediately to every emergency call.

Aswafaizole also advised the public to stay updated on weather conditions and water levels in their respective areas through official government social media channels, and to comply immediately with any evacuation orders issued.

He said the state operations room, which was activated last night, are now manned by more than five personnel under the supervision of a senior officer.

“This team is responsible for monitoring weather developments, coordinating asset and response team movements, and managing emergency calls across the state," he added.
