KOTA KINABALU, Nov 27 (Bernama) -- More than 8,000 police personnel have been deployed across Sabah today to help ensure a smooth voting process in the 17th state election this Saturday.

Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Jauteh Dikun said the additional personnel would support district police teams in maintaining order at polling centres and preventing any untoward incidents.

At the same time, he reminded all officers to be disciplined and uphold the highest level of professionalism to safeguard the image of the police force.

“I urge them to take care of their health and refrain from any form of misconduct before, during or after duty,” he told reporters after a send-off ceremony at the Kota Kinabalu District Police Headquarters here today.

Jauteh also advised voters travelling home to cast their ballots to drive carefully and obey traffic rules.

He said traffic is expected to increase from tomorrow afternoon and reminded vehicle owners to ensure their cars are in good condition.

On the campaign period so far, Jauteh said activities have been generally smooth, although police have received 110 reports, mostly involving minor offences.

A total of 1.76 million voters are eligible to vote in the Sabah election, which sees 73 state seats being contested.
