Sarawak Police Step Up Efforts To Block Online Gambling

27/11/2025 03:41 PM

KUCHING, Nov 27 (Bernama) — Police in Sarawak are now focusing efforts on blocking online gambling systems to prevent direct access to such games.

Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Mohamad Zainal Abdullah said efforts to combat online gambling must adopt new approaches in line with technological changes.

“The latest trend allows players to access the games directly through their phones, making system blocking the most effective measure.

“Cooperation with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), and Sarawak Digital and Science is a key focus in identifying the most effective method to shut down unlicensed gambling operations,” he told reporters after the human resources assistance flag-off ceremony at the Sarawak Contingent Police Headquarters here today.

He said if there are any online gambling ‘top-up’ shops in this city suspected of attracting players, he will personally go to the ground to take action.

Meanwhile, he reminded Sarawak police personnel assigned to the Sabah state election duty to control their emotions and not respond to any provocation.

“Control your emotions, avoid reactive actions and always act based on the law and operational directives. Every move by police personnel is observed by the public; therefore, professionalism must be upheld at all times,” he said at the flag-off ceremony.

He said 903 police officers and personnel from Sarawak departed for Sabah today.

“The total number of personnel deployed to Sabah is 1,031. Some are already in Sabah while the rest departed today,” he said.
