Tropical Storm Senyar: Perak Not Badly Affected But Still On High Alert - MB

IPOH, Nov 28 (Bernama) -- The state government is still taking precautionary measures even though the state of Perak was not badly affected following Tropical Storm Senyar which was reported to have entered the country's airspace since yesterday evening.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad said the state government, through the State Disaster Control Centre established at the State Secretary's (SUK) office, was constantly monitoring the situation based on the forecast issued by the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia).

"Based on initial reports, Perak was not badly affected by the storm, but we are continuing to monitor the situation and continue to provide assistance to flood victims who are currently affected by the storm in seven districts in the state," he told reporters after launching the State Assembly Members' Information System (eADN) at the Perak Darul Ridzuan Building this morning.

Perak is among the states expected to be affected by Tropical Storm Senyar, including the border area with Selangor, and is expected to bring heavy rain and strong winds from midnight last night until tomorrow (Saturday) which is also expected to cause heavy rain and rising water.

Earlier, the Perak Civil Defence Force (APM) said there were more than 10 reports of fallen trees since yesterday evening until 6 am this morning in several districts including Kuala Kangsar, Muallim, Hilir Perak, Batang Padang, Manjung, Perak Tengah, Bagan Datuk and Taiping following strong winds and storms.

According to the Public Works Department (JKR) Disaster Operations Room, four districts in Perak were affected until 6 am this morning.

Meanwhile, Saarani said all security agency assets had been moved to flood-affected areas in the state in addition to food supplies and needs for victims at temporary relief centres (PPS) which so far involved more than 5,000 victims.

"I managed to visit several PPS yesterday, so far all needs including food have been well managed by the Social Welfare Department (JKM) and we will ensure that the basic needs of the victims are met including ensuring that their homes are completely safe before they can return to their homes," he said.

Regarding eADN, it is an integrated platform to record and manage information of serving State Assemblymen and retired State Assemblymen digitally.

Through eADN, all matters of application for State Assemblymen, retirees or heirs can be carried out online in a more orderly manner.

This approach helps save time, increase the accuracy of information and reduce reliance on manual processes, he said.
