KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 28 (Bernama) -- A runner pleaded guilty today in the Magistrate’s Court to a charge of injuring sports journalist Haresh Deol, who is also the deputy president of the National Press Club, last Tuesday.

R. Krishnan, 37, was charged together with another suspect still at large with intentionally causing injury to Haresh Singh Chain Sing, 43, in front of the Tanjung Balai Group building at Jalan Telawi 3, Bangsar here between 3.10 pm and 3.32 pm.

The charge was framed under Section 323 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 34, which carries a maximum jail term of one year, a fine of up to RM2,000, or both.

Magistrate Illi Marisqa Khalizan allowed Krishnan bail of RM2,000 in one surety and set Jan 22 for case facts and sentencing.

Earlier, Deputy Public Prosecutor Hench Goh requested bail of RM4,000 in one surety.

Lawyer Mohamad Salihen Mastor, representing Krishnan, requested a lower bail amount as his client works as a runner earning RM40 a day.

"My client has to support his unemployed wife and six school-going children. I request that the bail amount be lowered with the additional condition that he reports to the police station," he said.

Goh did not object to the additional condition requested by the lawyer.

Haresh, a co-founder of the news portal TwentyTwo13, in a post on X on Tuesday, said that he was attacked by two men while heading to his car, while another individual recorded the incident using a mobile phone.
