ALOR GAJAH, Nov 28 (Bernama) -- The Food and Agro-based Industry (IMAT) Carnival for the Alor Gajah parliamentary constituency, which was scheduled to take place at Dataran Keris tomorrow, has been postponed due to the effects of tropical storm Senyar.
The Melaka branch of the Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (FAMA), in a statement today, said the postponement was a precautionary measure in light of the storm, which is currently affecting several areas in Peninsular Malaysia.
“Our priority is the safety of visitors, traders and all parties involved in organising the IMAT Carnival.
“We regret any inconvenience caused, and a new date for the carnival will be announced soon,” it said.
It added that for further information, the public may contact the agency’s Corporate and Advocacy Unit at 06-6033 0004.
Yesterday, Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) director-general Dr Mohd Hisham Mohd Anip reportedly said that tropical storm Senyar had been detected entering the waters of the Straits of Melaka from 3.30 pm yesterday.
These adverse weather conditions are expected to bring continuous heavy rain, strong winds and rough seas to Peninsular Malaysia, particularly in the western and central states, and are forecast to persist until tomorrow (Nov 29).
