Labuan DOE Conducts Joint Operation To Curb Excessive Black Smoke Emissions

LABUAN, Dec 4 (Bernama) -- The Labuan Department of Environment (DOE) today conducted a joint enforcement operation targeting excessive black smoke emissions from diesel-powered vehicles, in line with the Environmental Quality (Control of Emission from Diesel Engines) Regulations 1996.

Its director Zulfadzli Zakaria said the operation, held along Jalan Patau-Patau from 9 am onwards, was aimed at ensuring all diesel-engine vehicles comply with the criteria and standards set under the regulations.

“This operation reflects our continuous effort to ensure vehicle owners follow the stipulated emission limits. Any violation of these regulations may result in compounds being issued,” he said.

The integrated enforcement was conducted together with the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), the National Anti-Drugs Agency (AADK) and the Road Transport Department (RTD), involving roadside checks and visual assessments.

A total of 62 vehicles were subjected to visual emission testing, with eight notices of reminder issued to owners whose vehicles were approaching non-compliance levels.

Traffic police also issued five summonses for various traffic offences detected during the operation.

Zulfadzli said the department will continue to carry out similar operations to raise awareness and ensure that all diesel-engine vehicle operators take proactive measures to maintain their vehicles and minimise environmental impact.
