KUCHING, Dec 4 (Bernama) -- The Department of Environment (DOE) today launched the national-level Minggu Operasi Gerak Kenderaan Motor 2025 as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen compliance with vehicle emission standards nationwide.

DOE director-general Datuk Wan Abdul Latiff Wan Jaffar said the nationwide Ops Gerak Kebangsaan would be conducted simultaneously during the second week of December and continued periodically as scheduled.

“In addition to motor vehicle enforcement, DOE emphasises compliance in refrigerant management,” he said at the launch held in conjunction with the World Ozone Day celebration here today.

He said the department remains committed to ensuring that all quarters comply with the requirements under the Environmental Quality (Refrigerant Management) Regulations 2020, in line with the nation’s efforts to curb emissions that harm the atmosphere.

“To support this, DOE is enhancing its preparedness through upgraded monitoring equipment, including 22 smoke meters for diesel vehicle inspections, 14 latest-model gas analysers for petrol vehicles and 14 sound level meters for more accurate noise measurement.

“The enforcement teams nationwide are also being strengthened with new operational vehicles such as the Toyota Hilux and Proton X70,” he said.

Wan Abdul Latiff stressed that the DOE would not compromise with any party failing to comply with regulations aimed at safeguarding the environment.

“I urge all sectors to continue working together to ensure the environmental sustainability agenda can be achieved holistically and sustainably,” he said.

This year’s World Ozone Day theme, “From Science to Global Action”, highlights the need for collective, data-driven action to safeguard the Earth’s atmosphere.
