Japan Earthquake: No Reports Of Malaysians Affected So Far - Wisma Putra

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 9 (Bernama) -- There are no reports of Malaysians affected by the 7.5 magnitude earthquake that struck northeastern Japan on Monday, according to Malaysia’s Foreign Ministry.

The ministry, widely known as Wisma Putra, said through the Embassy of Malaysia in Tokyo, it is closely monitoring the situation.

“At this time, there are no reports of Malaysians affected by the earthquake. The Embassy remains in close communication with local authorities and is monitoring developments closely,” said Wisma Putra in a statement on Tuesday.

The earthquake occurred at 11.15 pm (local time), at a depth of 54km, approximately 80km off the coast of Aomori Prefecture.

Tsunami warnings were issued but have since been lifted.

Wisma Putra advised Malaysians residing in or travelling in the affected areas to remain vigilant, avoid coastal regions, and follow official guidance from Japanese authorities.

“Malaysians are also strongly encouraged to register their presence with the Embassy of Malaysia in Tokyo to ensure timely communication and assistance when required,” it added.
