BANGKOK, Dec 12 (Bernama) -- The national men's hockey squad kicked off their 2025 Thailand SEA Games campaign in style after thrashing Myanmar 21-1 in the first Group A match at the National Sports University in Chonburi today.
Muhammad Azrai Aizad Abu Kamal emerged as the most outstanding player when he scored seven goals, including two penalty corner goals.
Also stealing the spotlight was the sterling performance of Syed Mohammad Syafiq Syed Cholan, who scored four goals, including one penalty corner goal, besides a hat-trick by Norsyafiq Sumantri.
Muhajir Abdu Rauf and Mohd Fitri Saari each scored two goals, while Amanraj Singh, Alfarico Lance Liau Jr and Shello Silverius also scored one goal each.
Meanwhile, Myanmar's consolation goal was scored by Oo Thein Htike through a penalty stroke.
"We are here to win the tournament, so we shouldn't have any problems moving the ball around and taking our chances," said national hockey team head coach Sarjit Singh after the match in a video clip shared by the Malaysian Hockey Confederation (MHC).
Malaysia will face Indonesia tomorrow.
