Undi18: PBB Machinery Urged To Raise Awareness Among New Voters

15/12/2025 12:19 PM

SIBU, Dec 15 (Bernama) -- The Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) election machinery has been urged to actively raise awareness among new voters aged 18 and above in Sarawak of their eligibility to vote in the state election expected to be held at the end of next year.

PBB vice-president Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee said many young people remained unaware that they are automatically eligible to vote, as they still believed they needed to register as voters under the previous system.

He said the upcoming state election would mark the first time this group would participate as voters, making it important for clear explanations to be provided to ensure they understand and can carry out their responsibilities properly.

“I found that many young people still thought they were not old enough to register as voters, even though they are already eligible to vote. This shows that the level of awareness remains low,” he said.

He said this when speaking at the PBB Sibu get-together held at the LAKIS Hall here last night.

Dr Annuar, who is also the Sarawak Deputy Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development and the Nangka assemblyman, said a strong mandate was crucial to ensure the continued leadership of Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg in driving the state’s development agenda.

In this regard, he called on all PBB branches in Sibu, including Dudong, Bukit Assek, Pelawan, Bawang Assan and Nangka, to streamline and strengthen their respective election machinery in preparation for the upcoming state election.
