KUALA BERANG, Dec 17 (Bernama) -- The Aring 8–Kenyir–Kuala Jeneris road in Hulu Terengganu has been closed for all vehicles starting today, after land erosion caused the culvert wall to collapse because of strong water currents.
Hulu Terengganu Police Chief Supt Sharudin Abd Wahab said part of the road began to collapse in May, but it fully gave way at 7 am today.
He said the closure is needed so that safety and repair work can be done in the affected area.
“The road is unsafe for all vehicles and needs urgent repairs because it is the only way to reach the Sungai Deka Elephant Conservation Centre. If the road is closed, fuel supplies for the electric generator will be affected,” he said when contacted by Bernama today.
Sharudin said concrete barriers and warning signs have been put up, and road users should use the alternative route via Sungai Tong, Jerteh, Kuala Krai, and Aring 8 for now.
He also urged the public not to enter the area for safety reasons and said police will step up patrols at the affected site.
