MELAKA, Dec 19 (Bernama) -- The Melaka state government remains committed to strengthening inclusive education with the construction of an additional building for the Integrated Special Education Programme (PPKI) at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Bukit Katil to cater to the increasing enrolment of students with special needs.
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh said the RM5.6 million project is scheduled for full completion in August 2027 and is urgently needed to ensure a safe, comfortable and conducive learning environment for students with special education needs (MBPK).
He said the growing number of PPKI students each year has resulted in overcrowded classrooms that exceed capacity, posing challenges in terms of comfort, safety and the effectiveness of teaching and learning.
“This new facility will be able to accommodate more than 90 students, supporting their development, potential, self-confidence and overall well-being, in line with the state government’s commitment to ensure that no child in Melaka is left behind or marginalised in the education system,” he said.
He was speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony for the project held in conjunction with the Bukit Katil ‘Wakil Rakyat Untuk Rakyat’ (WRUR) programme at the school here today.
Also present were Deputy Defence Minister Adly Zahari, who is also the Bukit Katil assemblyman, and Melaka Public Works Department director Mohamad Salzeli Moktar.
The project will include, among other facilities, six classrooms, an intervention room and a workshop.
