KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 17 (Bernama) -- Wanita UMNO has proposed that the Women in the Halal Industry agenda be elevated as one of the country’s key priorities under the National Halal Industry Development Council (MPIH).
The movement chief, Datuk Seri Dr Noraini Ahmad, who is also the Minister of Plantation and Commodities, said the proposal is a strategic move to empower women’s participation while strengthening the national economy.
“Wanita UMNO believes that economic strength is one of the core foundations for building strong families, ensuring social stability and driving national progress,” she said in her closing speech at the 2025 UMNO General Assembly here today.
Meanwhile, Puteri UMNO chief Datuk Nurul Amal Mohd Fauzi urged the government to place greater emphasis on women’s reproductive health, particularly through vaccination and education programmes related to the human papillomavirus (HPV).
She said HPV is a preventable health threat, and proposed that HPV vaccination and education be made a standard programme for all women, including ensuring access to psychological support services.
“If the government does not take the initiative, who else will? We are in government, and we have the authority to implement these programmes,” she said.
The 2025 UMNO General Assembly, which began on Wednesday, concludes today at the World Trade Centre here, after having been postponed twice in August and November to allow the party to focus on preparations for the 17th Sabah State Election.
