JERTIH, Jan 22 (Bernama) -- Besut MARA Skills Institute (IKM) is taking a step forward in technical and vocational education and training (TVET) by focusing on green technology, with Terengganu’s first electric vehicle (EV) charging stations set up at its campus.
State MARA (Majlis Amanah Rakyat) director Mohd Farris Radzuan said EV owners in the district can use the single-unit EV charger.
He added that, in addition to supporting learning and local EV users, the station will allow out-of-district travellers to charge their vehicles.
“EV owners can charge their vehicles by scanning the QR code at the station, with payments processed online,” he told Bernama after the launch of the charging station, which was also attended by Besut IKM director, Ir. Abdul Athar Ibrahim.
Mohd Farris said the charging station will help achieve Besut IKM’s goal of becoming a hub for emerging technologies, including EVs, electrification, and sustainable energy.
He added that, in addition to the charging station, Besut IKM has also received two new EVs: a BYD Atto 3 and a Proton e.MAS 5, under the Eastern Zone TVET Rationalisation Programme by the Rural and Regional Development Ministry.
He said the Diploma in Automotive Technology students will use the vehicles for hands-on-training in EV systems.
“This programme includes modules on hybrid and EV vehicles, and will feature an EV centre when the institute’s new building is completed by the end of 2027,” he added.
