Woman Acquitted Of Neglecting Three-Year-Old Boy

IPOH, Jan 26 (Bernama) -- A woman was acquitted and discharged by the Sessions Court here today of a charge of neglecting a three-year-old boy three years ago.

Judge Ainul Shahrin Mohamad ordered Norriza Khamis, 48, to be freed after finding the defence had failed to establish a case against her.

She also ordered the bail refunded to the woman.

According to the charge, she was alleged to have neglected the boy without reasonable arrangements for supervision and care at Jalan Putra Permai 10, Taman Putra Permai 2, here on July 24, 2023.

The charge was framed under Section 33(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001, which is punishable by a maximum fine of RM20,000 or imprisonment for a term not exceeding five years or both, if convicted.

Deputy Public Prosecutor R.S. Vitthiyeswary appeared for the prosecution, while the accused was represented by lawyers Mohamad Khazali Yin and Mahinderjit Singh.
